The ‘Greenhouse’ project, selected to represent Portugal at the Biennale, was developed by a collective made up of visual artist Mónica de Miranda, historian Sónia Vaz Borges, and choreographer Vânia Gala, and will be presented at Palazzo Franchetti between 20 April and 24 November 2024.
This project was featured in the ‘Scoop’ section of Electra 24 (published in April 2024 and distributed at the opening of the exhibition), with a series of texts and images by the three artist-curators (On crossing, On land, On walking), revealing the main themes and motivations behind the project, a Creole garden, from which the themes of colonialism, war, liberation struggles and ecology are considered.
As part of the Portuguese representation at the Art Biennale, a public programme of talks and performance actions has been organised. Last September, this programme featured, among others, the artist Ângela Ferreira, who represented Portugal at the Venice Biennale in 2007 and is the author of the portfolio of Issue 15, and the environmental activist Vandana Shiva, with whom Electra spoke in 2020, in an interview that can be read in Electra 9.
Electra Magazine will be present at the Lisbon Book Fair, which runs from June 4 to 22 (stand E03). On June 7 at 4:00 PM, a debate centered on the main theme of Electra 28 will take place at the Orange Stage. From May 30 to June 15 Electra will also be present at Madrid Book Fair.
Electra will be present at the ARCOlisboa Contemporary Art Fair, which takes place from May 29 to June 1 at the Cordoaria Nacional.
Yves Citton will be in Lisbon to participate in the conference ‘Coincidences: Attentional Moves’ taking place at Culturgest on 28 May at 7pm.
