Writer, translator, critic and researcher Richard Zenith was a finalist in the Biography category of this year's Pulitzer Prize with his Pessoa: A Biography.
Published in English in July 2021, the biography of Fernando Pessoa by Richard Zenith, one of the world's leading specialists on the great poet of heteronyms, was widely praised by international critics (London Review of Books, New Statesman, New York Times, Quatro Cinco Um) and hailed as one of the books of the year in the English-speaking press.
In the spring of 2021, Electra magazine presented, in a worldwide pre-publication, a chapter that provided a small taste of Pessoa: A Biography. The pages released revealed a striking portrait of the poet, including his physical appearance, the ways he earned a living, family ties, social, intellectual and literary bonds, the enigma of his sexuality, the real and mythical setting of Lisbon, and the complex relationship between his life and work. The chapter was accompanied by images made specially for Electra by artist Noé Sendas. It can be read here.
The Portuguese version of Zenith's work, Pessoa: Uma Biografia, hits the stands this month from Quetzal.
