Open from October 2022 to February 2023, the Guggenheim dedicates a major retrospective to this artist born in 1927 in Brooklyn. From his first sketches of commuters on the New York underground from the 1940s, when still a student, to the landscapes that have dominated his most recent production, this exhibition spans eight decades of his work, bringing together more than 200 paintings, sketches, drawings, prints and cutouts.

Emerging in the mid-20th century on a New York art scene dominated by Abstract Expressionism, Alex Katz chose a different path of figuration, clarity of composition and chromatic power. We can follow this path in an interview made by Juan Manuel Bonet, and published alongside the Portfolio in Electra 17.
