Established in 2025, ESPANTO aims to take philosophy beyond the academic sphere and bring it closer to the public sphere, bringing together leading national and international experts and thinkers.
Now in its second edition, the festival will explore the theme of ‘Desire’ and will feature, amongst others, speakers such as French philosopher and writer Didier Eribon (interviewed for Electra 14); writer and lecturer Gonçalo M. Tavares and João Constâncio, professor of Philosophy, who have contributed to several issues of Electra; Minna Salami, author and feminist analyst; Richard Shusterman, lecturer and founder of the Center for Body, Mind, and Culture; and the philosophers Sebastian Sunday Grève and Gilles Lipovetsky.
In 2026, the festival pays tribute to Viriato Soromenho-Marques, philosopher and professor at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Lisbon (FLUL) and author, who has also contributed to Electra (issues 10 and 18).
Several issues of the magazine will be available for sale at Casa das Histórias Paula Rego, on 27 and 28 June, featuring sections on themes such as Body, Fear, Colour and Infra-structures.
